It’s here – the unofficial start to summer! This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day in many joyous and unforgettable ways. Fun fact – Memorial Day was first celebrated as early as the 1860’s post civil war and was initially called “Decoration Day” to recognize the fallen soldiers. After World War I, it was extended to honor all men and women in the military who have died in service.
Here are some events in the North Metro to pay tribute and enjoy the weekend:
The City of Broomfield Veterans Museum is hosting their annual Memorial Day event in honor of our fallen military at the Broomfield County Commons pavilion from 11am-1pm. They will have live music and food for sale from the Broomfield Rotary.
Westminster City Park will start their summer “Movie in the Park” series this Friday, the 24th, with “Barbie” on the big screen. We’re expecting 70 degrees and clear skies, so bring your lawn chairs, lots of snacks and wear anything pink – you Ken do it! The movie starts at 7pm.
The City of Erie will host a Memorial Day ceremony at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery from 11am-1pm at 520 Colliers Way, in Erie.
The City of Brighton will host a Memorial Day parade. It begins at Brighton High School and travels East on Main St. to the Mill Pond. There will be a wreath laying afterward at the AMP and Brighton’s Veterans Memorial.
The City of Arvada is hosting a Memorial Day outdoor pickleball tournament this Saturday and Sunday at the APEX Recreation Center. Entry fee is $120, and there are still plenty of spaces.
The Boulder Creek Festival begins this Friday the 24th-27th with a plethora of party events including over 30 live bands, multiple vendors, food trucks, a beer festival and arts crafts for the kids. There’s something for literally everyone and it’s FREE to attend.
The Bolder Boulder 10K race takes off on its annual run and celebration Monday morning. Registration is still open and as always it’s going to be a fantastic festival along the route to CU’s Folsom Field with live bands, BBQ, vendors and a patriotic flyover at noon. North Metro Woman will be there -laced up and ready to run. See ya out there!
Enjoy the weekend!
