If you’ve kept up with North Metro Woman, you know we love to chat with fabulous female entrepreneurs. We recently introduced you to Kelsey TenHarmsel, a graphic artist who designs and makes colorful Colorado stickers, hats, and t-shirts. She is so talented and her trendy products are really cool, too! We love doing stories like this as they honor the wonderful women in business we meet here in north Denver, AND it’s just so fun to feature women who make things for a living.
This week, we’re excited to talk about Nicolette Andres. Nicolette is a Hardanger fiddle player that we featured last June. You can often catch her playing in Boulder at places like the Trident bookshop or various Nordic festivals around the Colorado area. She is an incredibly talented performer and teacher, and somehow also finds the time to make felt sauna hats. If you’ve never seen a sauna hat, you are missing out. They are so colorful, whimsical, and absolutely adorable!
Nicolette says, “Playing Norwegian music is just one thing that eventually led me to learning about Sauna hats! I love saunas, and always feel better when I have one close by I can go to. Once I learned that sauna hats are pretty standard for people going often, I had the idea to try and make one. With lots of laughter and guidance from my mom, we did it! I love making art, and being able to wear it is even better.”

What Nicolette and sauna goers know is that sauna hats are not just for fashion. Sauna hats have a dual purpose. First of all, they protect your hair from damage in high heat – who doesn’t LOVE and need that? And second, they allow you more time to enjoy a sauna as they keep the heat off of your head which helps your body to regulate the temperature and enjoy the experience more. Most sauna hats are made of wool or felt, two very waterproof materials, which come in handy when things start heating up.
