If you have big or little school-age kids, or live with some, you know they are FINALLY out of the house and back to school for the fall semester.
Yes, we love them too, but… CONGRATS!
It’s a very special time of year. If you’re not working full-time (in addition to ALL the other home and family care), this time of year may bring you a little more time to yourself. Here are some hints for spending some of that precious “me time” wisely.
Go to the spa. You have been neglected too long, ladies. It’s time to make an appointment at your favorite salon and spa and treat yourself to a fresh cut, a mani-pedi, or maybe a stress-reducing aromatherapy massage.
Here are some of our favorites salons and spas in the North Metro area: Wild Roots Salon in Westminster, Capelli Salon and Spa in Thornton, and Lifespa (at Lifetime Fitness) in Westminster.
Go to a movie in the middle of the day. If you haven’t seen the latest Barbie or need a Mission Critical Tom Cruise fix, you can now enjoy the big screen with practically the whole theatre to yourself. Check out movie times at: Westminster AMC Promenade, The Orchards AMC, Flatirons AMC and The Alamo Drafthouse.
Go shopping. Mid-day + Fall = zero crowds. One of the great things about everyone being back to school and off to work, is there is less traffic at the indoor and outdoor shopping malls.
You won’t have any problem finding parking or browsing the shops at Flatirons Crossing, the Orchards Town Center, Denver Premium Outlets, Louisville Downtown, or the Pearl Street Mall. And while you’re at it, buy something special for yourself.
Catch up on a good book. There are several great bookstores in our area and a couple, in particular, that also have a coffee shop inside. Here are some of our faves: Tattered Cover in Westminster, Barnes and Noble in Thornton, and The Boulder Book Store on Pearl.
And if you need a great book recommendation check out Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus. It’s a fabulous page turner set in the ultra sexist 1950’s featuring a dazzlingly gorgeous heroine with a voracious mind for science and a quick wit to match. Her equally adorable daughter and faithful furry sidekick make it an A+.
Get with your special someone. One of the best things about having the kids out of the house… NO INTERRUPTIONS! ’nuff said. Have fun!
Get outside. There are so many places to go for a walk, hike or bike in the North Metro area. Here are some links to open space trails: Westminster Open Space, City and County of Broomfield, and Eldorado Canyon State Park.
And finally, a little view on why we like that last tip so much:
What fun are you up to now that the kids are back in school? We would love to hear from you!
