Black Cats, Stripey Cats, and Calicos, too!

Where to adopt a furry friend in the North Metro area.

by North Metro Woman

This Halloween you’ll see a multitude of menacing black cat decor around town, but if you visit Riverdale Animal Shelter in Brighton, you’ll find  cats of every color and they’re not scary at all.

In fact, the faces of “Lorilei Gilmore”, “Taffy”, “Mama Kitty”, “Twig” and baby “Craig”  just want a loving home to call their own and they will simply melt your heart to get it.

Currently the shelter has over 40 male and female cats for adoption ranging in age from just weeks old to very mature and loving older cats.

If you’re a little uncertain, just pop on by.  You can schedule a visit seven days a week (no later than a half hour before closing) to get to know your new friend.

A few  “blue collar cats” (cats that are better suited for working as mousers on farms) can also be adopted with a waived adoption fee and complimentary spay and neutering service.

These special cats are not socialized to live like ordinary house cats, as many came to the shelter as feral, but they are extraordinary hunters and just need a loving home to feed and care for them.

Adopting a cat is such a win win.  There are numerous studies verifying how cats reduce stress by lowering heart rate and blood pressure.  And cat owners everywhere will also testify to their cat’s  “healing purr” and the overall benefits of their pet’s companionship.

We hope you find yours and good luck making a match!  We can’t wait to see your new family member. Write to us at editor@northmetrowoman.com.
