Humpday is upon us, dear readers. If you are starting to think about your weekend plans, you know there is plenty to do to get ready for the holidays. Perhaps you are taking the family for a light drive at Christmas in Color at Water World, the self proclaimed “world’s largest drive-through animated light show”? Maybe you are crossing off that x-mas list at the Denver Premium Outlets in Thornton?
Another option, that you may not have considered, is a visit to a quaint new area of town that is just perfect for some quality weekend family time. It’s called Midtown Denver, and it’s just a few miles Southeast of Westminster nestled between 68th and 64th Avenues between Federal and Pecos.
You heard the buzz this summer of the new Westminster (light rail) Station in this area where you can catch the B line to downtown and beyond. And parents love the incredible Nature Playground at Westminster Station . BUT this summer and fall brought a few new businesses to this quaint little hood.
On 67th Avenue, there’s a stunning community gathering center called The Shed; and part of that, The Garden, a lovely outdoor pavilion where they host farm to table activities and summer concerts. Next to The Garden, you’ll find Bruz Beers an artisanal Belgian brewery. And just up the street from that, on the corner of 67th and Raritan Dr., is a MUST stop. Here you’ll find a local favorite breakfast and brunch spot called Early Bird Restaurant.
Don’t worry readers, Early Bird still has their original Bradburn location in Broomfield, but their new digs are definitely worth a visit! The open, window-lined, new space is simply bright and beautiful . And yes, they are still serving your favorite signature dishes, like sweet cream buttermilk pancakes and savory homestyle biscuits and gravy, but in January, they will also have an expanded menu to include adult beverages.
Kristin Cofrades, Early Bird’s owner, says, “As soon as we walked into the Midtown location it just felt right, …like home!”
The combination of schools, parks, restaurants, gathering spots, and community resources makes this boutique neighborhood such a great part of town to put down some roots or raise up a good part of your weekend.
