Sip into the Season: Crafting the Perfect Fall-a-Rita with Mari Ann James

by North Metro Woman

As the leaves change colors and a brisk chill fills the air, there’s something undeniably magical about the arrival of fall. It’s a time for cozy sweaters, bonfires, and, of course, delicious seasonal drinks.

Today, we’re going to introduce you to a delightful autumn concoction called the Fall-a-Rita, a creation by none other than Mari Ann James, the owner of Broomfield’s Park Wine & Spirits. This cocktail combines the zing of tequila, the tang of margarita mix, and the sweetness of pineapple juice, making it the perfect choice for sipping on a crisp autumn evening.

Let’s dive into the details of this delightful drink!

Ingredients:

To craft the Fall-a-Rita, you’ll need the following:

  • Tequila – A quality tequila of your choice. Mari Ann recommends reposado or anejo to bring out the warmth of the cocktail.
  • Margarita Mix – You can use store-bought mix or make your own with fresh lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple syrup.
  • Pineapple Juice – Freshly squeezed or store-bought, it’s your choice.
  • Ice – To keep your drink cool and refreshing.
  • Dash of Sugar, Salt, Cinnamon and Cayenne Pepper (optional) mixed together – for rimming your glass, if desired.
  • Pineapple Wedge (use canned for convenience!) – for garnish.

Instructions:

  1. Rim the Glass (Optional): Before we get started with the cocktail, use your pineapple wedge to rim your glass with the spice mix until it’s nicely coated.
  2. Mix the Ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and combine:
    • 2 oz of tequila
    • 3 oz of margarita mix
    • 1 oz of pineapple juice
  3. Shake It Up:
    • Put the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds. This will chill and mix the ingredients thoroughly.
  4. Pour and Serve:
    • Strain the Fall-a-Rita mixture into  your spice rimmed glass.
    • Add a few ice cubes to keep your drink nice and cold.
    • Garnish with a wedge of pineapple and a cinnamon stick.  The pineapple can be dipped in the spice mix before setting upon the rim of your glass.  The cinnamon stick adds a pop of fall color and makes a stylish stir stick.
  5. Enjoy Responsibly:
    • Find a cozy spot, take a sip, and savor the flavors of fall in a glass.  (Of course, enjoy responsibly.)
